Kainuun Tervareitti: Kallioinen towpath for paddlers, Sotkamo
The Kallioinen towpath serves as a safe bypass route past the hydroelectric power plant when moving from Ontojoki to Kiimasjärvi.
The Kallioinen towpath is a bypass route suitable for paddlers on the Kainuun Tervareitti water hiking route when moving from the Ontojoki side to the waters of Kiimasjärvi.
Landing takes place next to the boat launch ramp above the Kallioinen power plant. From here, proceed by roads to the area below the power plant. There is a concrete boat ramp on the shore. The landing place is before the power plant on the southern shore. Below the power plant, access to the waters of Kiikarilampi is easy from a gravel shore.
Note that there is a strong current below the power plant in Kiikarilampi. It is recommended to paddle on the north shore side.
Author’s recommendation
The next good resting place is immediately after the Kiikarinlampi strait (niva) on the southern shore, Ontojoki's boat shore.
Derived from the technical difficulty and the stamina requirements.

Roadbook
Ascend from the boat launch site to the road and head west towards the power plant. At the power plant, the river is crossed by a bridge and shortly after that turn onto Kallioisenpolku. Below the hill, continue straight along the shore, not into the yards of the houses.
