Ärjä is a fine sandy island in the southern part of Lake Ontojärvi in Kuhmo. It is located along the Kainuu Tar Route water hiking trail. The island has a hut and a fireplace for a break.

The island is a great summer day trip destination for paddlers or a stopover on the Kainuu Tar Route. It is possible to land by boat, but the shore is shallow.
The southern shore is shallow and sandy, and the waves can get high in south and south-west winds. Under certain circumstances access to the water can be challenging. So keep an eye on the weather and wind forecasts.
The hut has a dry toilet and a wood shed.
It is about 4 km from the Tervasalmi boat ramp.
