The Islands Vitikkosaari and Kotasaari are connected by a narrow sandy isthmus. The boat towing track has been used for as long as man has lived in Lentua.
Vitikkosaari Island boat towing track is located in the Lentua Nature Reserve in the north-eastern part of the lake, with its many islands. The eastern route of the Kainuun Tervareitti water hiking trail, coming via Lake Juttua, passes through this stretch. From Huuhkajanlampi boat portage railway, it is only about three kilometres along the sheltered waters. The Kalliojoki river water hiking trail also joins Lake Lentua here.
The isthmus between the islands of Vitikkosaari and Kotasaari is just over half a kilometre long and only 200 metres wide. Using the boat towing path, the distance to the Lehtosaari wilderness hut shortens by more than half. The tow is short and easy.
On the western shore is a beautiful sandy beach called Riviera of Kuhmo .
