To facilitate the bypassing of Lentuakoski rapid, a boat portage railway has been built on the western bank of the rapids. The tracks run from the head of the rapids at Lentua Lake to the intermediate river between the rapids.

In Kuhmo, the Kainuun Tervareitti water hiking trail has several boat towing railways to make it easier to get past challenging or impassable rapids.

The approximately 350-metre-long Lentuankoski rapid boat portage bypasses Iso Lentuankoski. In contrast, the Small Lentuakoski is accessible by waterway in both directions. Originally built in the late 19th century to facilitate the passage of tar boats upstream in particular, this towing path now helps to pass the more challenging rapids downstream as well.

The Lentuankoski rapids are divided into Big (iso) and Small (pieni) Lentuankoski, with a short river part between them. The Big Lentuankoski is about 300 metres long, with a drop of about 3.3 metres. The Small Lentuakoski  is about 400 metres long, with a drop of about 1,8 metres. The total length of the rapids, including the intermediate reaches, is about 1200 m and the total drop is about 5,3 m.

The descent of the upper rapids in particular is moderately demanding (difficulty level II).

There is a shelter on the eastern bank of thei intermediate river part .
