Sotkamon Kaitainsalmen veneenlaskupaikka sijaitsee tärkeän vesiväylän varrella. Ranta toimii hyvänä lähtöpaikkana myös melojille Kiimasjärven ja Kaitianjärven/Pirttijärven suuntiin.

Kaitainsalmi on ollut aina tärkeä vesiliikenteen kannalta. Sotkamon reitin Kuhmosta tulevat vedet pakkautuvat Kaitainsalmella virraksi.

Betonisen veneenlaskuluiskan vieressä on hyvä, tukeva laituri.

Leiriytyminen ei ole sallittua.

Venerantaa ylläpitää Kaitainsalmen kyläyhdistys.
