The Cathedral of the Nativity of Mary of the Archdiocese of Milan is one of the largest churches in the world.
Milan Cathedral is one of the largest churches in the world in terms of floor space. So it is hardly surprising that it took around 500 years to build – with a long break in between. Construction began in 1388 and was eagerly pursued under changing master builders. In the 17th and 18th centuries, however, work almost came to a standstill – the façade, which is still impressive today, was not finished until the reign of Napoleon.
The gothic style of the building is still impressive today.
The Gothic style, however, was always maintained.
