Hot spot di biodiversità fra le Alpi e il Mediterraneo, l'area protetta ospita un’eccezionale varietà botaniche e specie faunistiche.
Dalle vette più alte del Parco del Marguareis, che superano i 2600 metri, lo sguardo spazia dalla Corsica al Monte Rosa. Al di sotto dei 2000 metri, splendidi boschi di abete, faggio e larice fanno ombra agli escursionisti, mentre negli ambienti più in quota più difficili vegeta l’ostinato pino mugo.
Hot spot di biodiversità fra le Alpi e il Mediterraneo, l'area protetta ospita un’eccezionale varietà di specie floristiche, con specie alpine continentali che vivono accanto a piante caratteristiche della vegetazione mediterranea. Diversificata e ricca anche la presenza della fauna, dove sono ben rappresentate le più tipiche specie alpine: caprioli, cervi, camosci, marmotte, aquile e fagiani di monte. A completare il ricco ecosistema delle valli Pesio e Tanaro, a metà degli anni ’90 è stato l'insediamento del primo branco stabile di lupo documentato sulle Alpi italiane.
