1 Fuhrtsbach - Daffodil bloom and butterfly diversity
Biologische Station StädteRegion Aachen e.V.
The hike passes species-rich bear's-foot meadows with daffodils in April. In May and June, you can see the Adonis blue and the pearl-bordered fritillary.
The hiking route mostly runs through the Eifel National Park. First, it goes downhill into the valley, then along extensively managed meadows where numerous wild daffodils bloom in spring. Over the course of the year, typical species of mountain hay meadows such as bear's-foot, devil's claw, cut-leaved germander, and black knapweed grow here. Further along the tour, you pass one of the oldest moor birch forests in the area. You pass various areas where you can observe diverse butterfly species such as the Adonis blue, pearl-bordered fritillary, chessboard butterfly, and large pearl-bordered fritillary.

Roadbook
The hiking route mostly runs through the Eifel National Park.
We follow the sign “Narzissenroute” downhill towards the south and reach a T-junction where we turn left. Immediately after, we turn right onto a narrow forest path. We follow this parallel to the stream downhill, reach a paved path and continue downhill until we reach a bridge.
To the left of the path is a dilapidated World War II bunker complex. We cross the bridge and after about 60 m reach an intersection. We turn left onto hiking trail 61.
After about 1.4 km we reach the next bridge at a pond. At the T-junction behind it, we turn left, at the shortly following fork we go straight and cross another bridge.
We now go left uphill. After about 900 m we turn left and follow the path to the next bridge. Behind it, a narrow path leads left next to the large beech tree. We follow this along the small stream and again come across the bunker complex.
After crossing the stream, we follow the paved path uphill to the right and return via the same paths as at the beginning of the hike to the parking lot.
