The Vatican Museums house the papal art collections and are an absolute highlight for culture-loving travellers to Rome.
The Vatican Museums are among the most important art museums in the world. There are works of art from over 2000 years, from antiquity to modernity, spread across many collections and galleries. It is advisable to choose which areas you would like to see before visiting – the museums are too large to visit completely in one day. Guided tours (also with audio guide) are recommended in any case.
The undisputed highlight of the Vatican Museums is the Sistine Chapel with the world-famous ceiling paintings by Michelangelo.
