The Föens Battery, along with the Jafferau and Pramand batteries, is located along the former military road 79 that connects Bardonecchia, Oulx, and Salbertrand at altitude
Along the southern slope of the Jafferau, on a plateau at elevation 2216, the Foens Battery was built between 1897 and 1899.
The battery was protected in front by an embankment and completely surrounded by a defensive wall with embrasures for riflemen. In front of the entrance to the fort was a large esplanade where the military road uphill to Jafferau and downhill to Bardonecchia intersected.
The battery proper was an armed rectangular building with 4 mortar emplacements on the roof and 2 cannons placed lower down.
The battery emplacements are still visible and in good condition as is the riservetta (room used to store ammunition). The casemate is partially destroyed as is the surrounding wall with embrasures. In the embrasures of the 'main entrance there are inscriptions of soldiers.
