The most important fortification in the Cottian Alps in the late 19th century.
The fort was built, between 1885 and 1894, on the site where the ruins of the Chateau du Bramafam stood; from that high ground it was easy to control the entrance to the Frejus Rail Tunnel, which had become a source of considerable concern for a possible French military invasion.
From 1895 the fort actually went into operation, with the armament deployed.
Since 1995, on the initiative of theAssociation for the Study of Military History and Architecture, a restoration site has been underway and a museum area of more than 4,000 square meters, a museum on the history of the Royal Army, has been created .
A tour itinerary has been set up within the work, which tells the military history of Italy from 1890 to 1945 through a series of careful environmental reconstructions brought to life by 180 mannequins wearing original uniforms of the Royal Army, 74 artillery pieces from different eras (guns and cannons), more than 2,000 historical artifacts and models of fortifications.

Directions
By car from Bardonecchia take the SS335 state road in the direction of Oulx. After about 1 km, turn right under the railway, cross the bridge over the Dora River and drive up the dirt road for about 2 km to the Sant'Anna Chapel and park.
