Tovel Lake

Lake Tovel is located in the northernmost point of the famous Brenta Dolomites and is surrounded by the Campa massif and the majestic rocky amphitheater that connects the Grostè Pass to the Gaiarda Pass. The color of its waters is unmistakable and have made it famous all over the world. The blue of the water melts 39 meters to emerald green as it approaches the shores. The contrast is even more evident when the water caresses the incredibly white beaches: it looks like Caribbean sand but it is instead of precious dolomite powder! In the summer months until the early 1960s, the lake was the protagonist of an incredible phenomenon: its waters were tinged with red thanks to the presence of a microscopic algae (Tovéllia sanguinea), still present but with much lower concentrations.
