Queen of the Dolomites
The Marmolata, also known as Queen of the Dolomites, is the highest mountain group of the Dolomites. The mountain lies between the upper Val di Fassa in the Trentino and the Val Cordevole in the province of Belluno. The highest peak of the Marmolata is at 3,343 meters the Punta Penia. In addition, the Marmolata is partially covered by the largest and most extensive glacier of the Dolomites. The mountain group consists, unlike most of the Dolomites, not of dolomite, but of light limestone, which is made of coral reefs and volcanic material.
