Retezat National Park
Access to the Retezat National Park, the first nature reserve in Romania (1935), is by ticket. It can be purchased at the Nucșoara and Ostrovel visitor centres (at the entrance to Râu de Mori), the Cascada hut, the Gura Apei entry point, the Pietrele Information Centre, the Buta Mountain Rescue Point or from APNR staff on duty in the park.
Most of the hiking trails in Retezat start from Râu de Mori or Nucșoara (in the north) or from Câmpu lui Neag and Cheile Buții (in the south).

The Land of Blue Eyes - this unique place in Romania
The superlatives of the glacial lakes are a detail that make the Retezat Mountains a unique place in Romania: the largest glacial lake in the country - Bucura, the deepest glacial lake - Zănoaga, and the glacial lake at the highest altitude in Romania - Tăul Porții.
That's why your adventure in the Retezat Mountains should not miss a trail to one of these lakes, even if it requires a little more effort and the right equipment. Both in the north and in the south there are accessible hiking and biking trails that reach the mountain huts or go deeper into the heart of the Retezat without reaching great heights.

A unique detail for the Retezat Mountains would be the possibility of coming across marmots in one of the glacial calderas. The marmot population in the Retezat comes from repopulation, the first specimens having been brought from the Alps in 1973.
