For over a century, the Vennbahn was the iron connection between Aachen and northern Luxembourg; now it is one of the longest cross-border railway trail cycle paths in Europe.
The Vennbahn between Aachen and Troisvierges in northern Luxembourg, with the unique raised bog High Fens in between, is one of the longest railway trail cycle paths in Europe with its 125 kilometers. It stands almost symbolically for a moving piece of Europe: originally a connection between coal mining areas in the north and steel mills in the south, then a lifeline in the conflict zone of two world wars, later forgotten, and today filling the cross-border region with life. Cross-border in the truest sense of the word, as the cycle path crosses more than a dozen times between Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Diverse nature shapes the path, from the Monschau hedgerow landscape and the moor landscape in the High Fens over the original Our valley to the gardens around Troisvierges.

Roadbook
The route leads over one of the longest cross-border railway trail cycle paths in Europe. Due to its history as a railway line, the route is mostly flat (in the future with a maximum gradient of 2 %) as it passes through the Eifel-Ardennes region. Only at the end of the route are some steeper climbs to be mastered, as the tunnel in Lengeler is not open to cyclists due to a rare species of bat, and the detour goes over the hill. The track surface is predominantly asphalted, but there are also sections with gravel-bound surfaces. The width of the cycle path varies between 2.50 m and 3.00 m.
