Only from the Upper Hemmersuppenalm does the terrain become more open. Thus, the last section from there to the beautifully located Straubinger Haus is the "final treat" of this technically easy hike.

    Author’s recommendation

Before stopping at the Straubinger Haus, it is definitely worth making the detour to the Fellhorn summit.

    Roadbook

From the Traunsteiner Ski Hut, you first walk past the other buildings of Winklmoosalm to the valley station of the gondola lift. Here begins a forest road (trail no. 18) which you follow into the forest heading west. The forest road makes three large curves and then continues always in a southern direction, crossing a free ski slope once.

From the right, another forest road joins, and at the next fork, turn right to reach the Eibenstock Hut of DAV Bayerland (self-catering hut) to the west, first on a wider then a somewhat narrower forest road.

At the fork there, keep right and continue to follow trail no. 18, which makes a large arc around the Eibenstock to the north and, after crossing the upper part of the Talbach westward, reaches a bend of a forest road. Follow this straight west to the Plegereck service hut.

Continuing further west, the path leads again through denser forest, crossing the Lahnergraben (then bear half right at the junction) and finally leads to the open meadows of the Upper Hemmersuppenalm.

Here follow the alpine road to a fork and turn left to follow trail no. 15 south towards the "Straubinger Haus". This initially passes through another forest section, then increasingly opens up into very beautiful mountain terrain leading to the exposed Straubinger Haus, which offers a great view including the Widen Kaiser.
