To ascend Maya e Roshit (also: Maya e Rosit), you start directly at the Valbona River and pass through several altitude zones until you reach high alpine karst terrain at a pass below the summit.
Initially, you climb through sparse mixed forest, then over sun-drenched steep mountain meadows to an alpine pasture, which in June after the snowmelt turns into a sea of flowers and where sheep graze in the summer. Above this, the terrain becomes increasingly barren and rugged.
In the steep rock faces above the pass, snow often remains even in June, forcing detours that may require some rock scrambling. Above this, the terrain becomes gentler again, and the summit climb itself is not particularly steep, leading to a small plateau where the highest point of Maya e Roshit lies. It is a wonderful place to rest and camp, and the long and physically demanding ascent is rewarded with spectacular panoramic views.

Safety information
Above the pass, the terrain is very steep. Surefootedness and a head for heights are required. In spring, it may be necessary to avoid snow remnants to the left by climbing into the rocks (grade I+).Tips and suggestions
Valbona Panorama PathRoadbook
You cross the stone bridge over the Valbona River, turn left immediately after, and follow path traces along the riverbank until you see old yellow-red markers to the right, guiding uphill and leading to a pull-out path, which you follow. Soon the path bends to the left and joins a marked trail that runs downstream and then gently uphill, gradually turning right and leading through sparse woodland into a side valley. You follow the yellow-red markers to a shaky footbridge over the stream, cross it, and continue downstream on the other bank to a wooden bridge, crossing the stream again. Beyond this, you head straight uphill over a slope to a fallen signpost. Here, you do not follow the arrow pointing right to a “guesthouse” but keep slightly left and continue straight uphill over the slope, cutting corners of a gravel road until you reach this road again at the forest edge, then follow it left and downstream.
At an information board reading “Maya e Rosit, 5 km,” you leave the gravel road and ascend a clear path on the right uphill. Along white-red markers, the climb becomes noticeably steeper from here. The forest thins, and the path leads over steep mountain meadows along a ridge to a meadow cirque, which you traverse to the left to reach a shepherd’s hut. Behind the hut, you follow a wooden arrow pointing uphill. Continuing along white-red markers, the path zigzags further uphill, with the terrain becoming increasingly karstic. Soon the path turns left into a scree cirque. Here, it continues upward in zigzags and later diagonally right, until the terrain flattens, and you reach a pass offering a wonderful view.
At the pass, turn right and follow trail traces leading steeply over rocky steps along a ridge. Along old white-red markers, the ascent continues, ultimately extremely steep in a faintly developed gully to a crossing, where the path turns left and reaches a small forepeak, from which the actual summit is visible for the first time. The further climb curves left around a large sinkhole and then continues relatively gently to the top of Maya e Roshit.
For the return, follow the ascent route.
