The Traumschleife Mittelrhein with magnificent views over the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley, featuring many changing views of the Rhine and the Loreley rock, as well as the panoramic view from the observation tower on the Spitzen Stein.

Right at the start, you can get an overview from the observation tower on Spitzen Stein and count the castles you approach along the way. Later, you can enjoy a magnificent view from Klüppelberg of Oberwesel with Schönburg and Kaub with Burg Gutenfels. Directly in front, in the Rhine itself, is Burg Pfalzgrafenstein. A second view of three castles is available at Wackenberg above St. Goar: Burg Rheinfels on the left and Burgs Katz and Maus opposite. In addition, there are always new views opening up into the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley - the site of the Federal Garden Show 2029. Of course, along the way, you can admire the legendary Loreley rock with its newly designed plateau and open-air stage, or the Rhine loops from many perspectives.

There are dining options at four gastronomy establishments along the hiking trail; additional accommodations can be found in the valley in St. Goar, St. Goar-An der Loreley, and Oberwesel.

The hiking trail was rated 96 points by the German Hiking Institute.

From the observation tower newly built in 2020 on the "Spitzen Stein" above Urbar, hikers can get an impression right at the start of what awaits them over the next 14.6 km. Passing the Generation Park of the municipality Niederburg and later the Niederburg heathland, a magnificent panoramic view suddenly opens up upriver. The view from Klüppelberg, the southernmost point of the route, focuses on Oberwesel with Schönburg and Kaub with Burg Gutenfels and just before it – in the middle of the Rhine – Burg Pfalzgrafenstein.

From now on, the path partly runs downstream along the Rheinburgenweg, past the Günderodehaus and Maria Ruh, continually offering the hiker new views into the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley, including the legendary Loreley rock or the Rhine loop and castles from different perspectives. Integrated is the so-called Troll Path with charming and clever steel-constructed figures that delight not only children. Part of the sculpture trail created at that time also experiences a renaissance on the Traumschleife. At Wackenberg, the northernmost point of the circular route, there is a view of Burg Katz, Burg Maus, and Burg Rheinfels.

Now you need a bit of stamina, as there are still some elevation meters to conquer until the end of the route in 4 km – via parts of the stairs coming from St. Goar along the Lohbach and past "Quetschehannes," a Biebernheim original. It is always worth looking back to the Rhine valley. And those who want to climb the tower again at the end can certainly look back on a varied day.
