When the Lahn Valley was in the South Sea!
Dive into a tropical reef from 380 million years ago!
Among sparkling fossils, masterful craftsmanship, and exciting stories, you will experience how a natural stone from the Lahn Valley conquered the palaces of the world.
Embark on a journey through 400 million years of Earth's history and discover how an ancient coral reef gave rise to the noble Lahn marble. Learn why this stone is found not only in castles, churches, and town halls, but even in impressive buildings in Amsterdam, Havana in Cuba, Istanbul, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vienna, and Zurich - even in the Empire State Building in New York!
Special exhibitions, lovingly designed dioramas, and original tools bring to life the hard work of stone breakers and sculptors in this GeoInformation Center of the GEOPARK Westerwald-Lahn-Taunus. Ideal for families, school classes, culture enthusiasts – and anyone who appreciates the beauty of nature.
Highlights: The touch bar for experiencing the steps of processing and the outdoor area with the “Unica Quarry,” a geotope of national significance.
