Alto de Trevim, at 1200 meters altitude, is a special place for all residents of the Serra da Lousã region. On clear days, it is possible to see places as far as Serra da Estrela, the Atlantic Ocean, Serra da Gardunha, and Marvão, in the Alentejo. The Epic Climb Lousã - Trevim starts near Carlos Reis Park in Lousã, following the countless turns and hairpin bends of N236 for more than 20 kilometers. Along almost its entire length, this climb is framed by lush vegetation, hiding several streams that run at the bottom of deep valleys. This is one of the most emblematic climbs in the Central Region.

Safety information
In the first 20 kilometers, the road surface on EN236 is of good quality, allowing for smooth ascents and descents. Only in a few places do tree roots cause some bumps in the road, requiring some caution when descending. Special attention is needed at the end of the descent, already in the urban area of Lousã, with some bumps and very loud rumble strips that may not be visible at high speed. On the climb, after the turn towards Trevim, the surface is rougher, with some points more degraded, requiring extra caution when descending to choose the best route. In winter, on the coldest days, special care is needed due to ice formation on this road, especially early in the morning, possibly persisting longer on the shadier curves.Tips and suggestions
The Serra da Lousã uniquely combines the cultural and human aspect of the Schist Villages with the nature and recreational possibilities offered by its landscape. It is home to deer, wild boars, and roe deer who peek through cork oaks, chestnut trees, oaks, and of course, pine trees. It is crossed by numerous hiking and MTB trails and paths leading to St. António da Neve, Alto do Trevim, Lousã Castle, or Senhora da Piedade, as well as various river beaches.
Precisely in Serra da Lousã are located 12 of the 27 Schist Villages: Aigra Nova, Aigra Velha, Candal, Casal de São Simão, Casal Novo, Cerdeira, Chiqueiro, Comareira, Ferraria de São João, Gondramaz, Pena, and Talasnal. If you can, visit them all and feel the life of the communities you encounter along the way.
