Tips and suggestions
There are complementary routes, both circular ones like Small Routes, such as the Caminhos do Xisto, around points where the GRZ passes, and detours from the main itinerary that lead users to nearby geographic areas and points of interest, such as the Aldeias do Xisto, river beaches, reservoirs, and dams, among others.Roadbook
The entire length of the GRZ can be done on foot or mountain bike, but only some sections can be done by canoe - some on whitewater caused by gradients and the river’s own profile, and others on calm waters under the influence of the reservoirs of the dams.
The route is divided into nine coherent units, which reflect the characteristics of the river and its surroundings. Each of these units comprises several stages, understood as the distance between two information panels.
- THE WILD BEGINNING | 30.1 km
- IRRIGATING COVA DA BEIRA | 55.7 km
- MINING LAND | 21.9 km
- MEANDERS | 23.1 km
- UNDER THE SIGN OF CABRIL | 62 km
- JUST YOU AND THE RIVER | 22.9 km
- THE RETURN OF SERENITY | 28.4 km
- RIVER ARMS | 71.4 km
- ON THE WAY TO THE TAGUS | 54.7 km
INTERMODAL STATIONS: Installed near the river, the Intermodal Stations are multifunctional support structures that allow route users to switch modes of travel along the itinerary (on foot, mountain bike, and canoe) without needing to leave the route to change the equipment used, i.e., bicycles and canoes. During the planning of the GRZ, different concepts were developed to take this itinerary to a level above what currently exists nationally and even internationally – the intermodal stations are one of these.
