In Forno, stay on the right (northern) side of the river and follow the beautiful, old bridle path uphill. You pass through some houses at Tallorno, the highest permanent settlement in the valley. You continue in the valley on the northern side.
At Alpe Pra (1617m), you still stay on the northern side, and only well behind the alpine pasture at about 1770m do you cross for some time to the southern (left) side before switching back to the northern side at around 1860m.
At about 2340m, you reach the high plateau of Alpe delle Oche di Sopra. From here you can already see the pass slightly to the right of the current direction.
I cannot describe the first 150 vertical meters of the descent because at the end of June 2019 there was still so much snow that we simply descended wildly over the snowfield, bypassing the upper steep section in a wide arc. Only at 2250m did we rejoin the path.
The path continues well marked downward. There are some places with ropes as well as steeper sections that require a bit of concentration. At about 1940m, you come to a cirque with some waterfalls. Here you cross to the northern (right) side of the river. There are some rope-secured sections that require concentration and sure-footedness. They are generally described as difficult (see photos).
The further path to Piamprato is easy to find.
If you want to skip the short route to Ronco Canavese, you can take the bus down shortly after 5:00 pm (check timetable!).
