On the developed circular trail around Oberhof, you can comfortably walk around the town Oberhof without too much effort. The path invites you to hike, regardless of summer or winter. Additionally, in the cold months, it serves as a Thuringian winter bike path. It is also an ideal starting point for all hiking routes in the region.

On your hike, you will pass by the Oberhof Sports Gymnasium, the Wadeberg ski jump facility, the start of the historic Wadeberg bob run, the Alte Golfwiese with its lift and sledding facilities, as well as the sports facilities at Harzwald.

It leads for short sections over the forest educational path at Schlossberg, as well as over the Historic Sports Facilities Trail.

    Author’s recommendation

A small stop at Wadebergblick for a beautiful view, or a short detour to the ski jump facilities at Wadeberg, is always worthwhile.

    Tips and suggestions

There is theoretically no start and finish of this trail, as there are many entry and exit points. There are also various start and finish options for arrival by car.

    Roadbook

A starting point is the town square of Oberhof, where you will find a parking lot (below the Oberer Hof), and the tourist information office is also located nearby. From here, you can cross the small park at Katzenteich and follow the path to the newly built ski jump facility at Wadeberg. With a bit of luck, you can watch the athletes' training here. Then continue to the Wadebergblick, from where you have a beautiful view of the luge track and the alpine ski slope. The start of the former Wadebergbobbahn was also located here.

Continue to the right towards Herrenweg.

At the Herrenweg crossroads, cross the street towards the cemetery, after about 20 m cross the next street to the Schlossberg.

Now proceed parallel to the street towards the Panorama Hotel. There is also parking available here. Shortly before the Panorama Hotel, turn left onto the forest educational path.

    Follow this over the Schlossberg.

At the next crossroads, continue to the right. After a short stretch, you will reach the bridge over the federal highway. Here you will also find the free parking lot at Gründle.

After crossing it, turn right onto a small forest path and follow it to the forest kindergarten.

Now continue to the left towards Großvaterstuhl, to the next viewpoint. Here you have a beautiful view towards Schneekopf, Kickelhahn, and the opportunity to take a short break.

Just across the street, continue through a small forest area along the federal highway. After about 500 m, you will reach the Alte Golfwiese Oberhof. Here you can enjoy a fast sled ride in summer and winter. Skiing is also possible here in the winter months with sufficient snow cover.

At the mountain station of the snow tubing facility, turn right and a few meters past the bridge, walk left up a small incline to reach the sports facilities in Harzwald. Follow the path further behind the sport hotel towards the Oberhof Sports Gymnasium.

Behind the Sports Gymnasium, turn sharply right and arrive at the "old bob house." Here you have to cross the street one last time. Along Tambacher Straße (the main street), you will return to the town square at the spa park.

    David Lehmann
