The full cycling loop around Szczecin Lagoon and Lake Dąbie officially spans 296 kilometers. Out of this, around 200 kilometers are located in West Pomerania, one of the few regions actively building a network of tourist cycling routes in Poland. The remaining 100 kilometers stretch across the German side, providing a glimpse into how Germany promotes its cycling tourism. Combined, these two parts offer a fantastic opportunity for several days of active cycling in West Pomerania and neighboring Mecklenburg. Moreover, thanks to good train connections on the Polish side, this route is suitable not only for summer cycling but also for year-round day trips or weekend getaways.

The waterside sections of the Szczecin Lagoon Cycle Route are some of the most scenic and memorable parts of the journey. On the Polish side, about 40 kilometers of the route around Szczecin Lagoon and Lake Dąbie are covered in gravel. Similarly, on the German side, 10 kilometers of pleasant gravel paths run between Bugewitz and Anklam. While gravel wasn’t the preferred surface, it was chosen to protect the delicate dike structures, which couldn’t handle more durable asphalt. It's worth noting that gravel is generally a second-choice surface in cycling tourism due to the higher costs and difficulty of maintenance for local authorities. Cyclists visiting the route in spring 2024 might encounter areas where erosion has affected the gravel paths, with temporary reinforcements in place to prevent further damage. More:
