Villa Rustica, Reipoltskirchen

Between the Ingweiler Hof and Reipoltskirchen, a small rural property could be investigated in the spring of 1989, due to a water pipe construction in the Odenbach valley. The building (34 x 16 m) encloses a rectangular courtyard, to which living quarters and a bath adjoin to the west and north. The heating of the bathroom, which was not uncovered, was from the courtyard side. The building corresponds to a purely functionally structured courtyard type, which does without a representative front with risalites and portico. Immediately to the southwest, a farm building is attested by a rubble site.
The farm is situated in an unfavorable location in the area of the Odenbach lowland on a small spur and was built in the late 1st century AD as a half-timbered building and shortly afterwards extended in stone. The extremely damp subsoil necessitated extensive foundation work and the insertion of a massive foundation slab. Apparently already in the 3rd century the farm was left out.
The estate area was made accessible to the public as an archaeological monument by appropriate planting and bricklaying of individual wall sections.
