A környék hatalmas bükköseit dolgozták fel a folyamat során. Az égetéssel szerzett fahamut erre szolgáló házakban (hamuházak) gyűjtötték össze, majd kádakban kilúgozták. A lúgot végül elpárologtatták, vasüstben kifőzték, ezzel sűrű masszához jutottak, melyet speciális kemencékben hevítettek vagy kiégették.
A Csiklingvár
A Hamuháztól rövid, kb. 2x5 perces kitérő a Csiklingvár alig detektálható romja. A meredeken lefutó vízmosás oldalának kissé kiugró pontján egykor pici erősség falai magasodtak. A közeli Királyszállás neve alapján feltételezhető, hogy az épület kisebb vadászkastély lehetett, ahol a környéken vadászó királyok és nemesek alkalomadtán megszálltak.
Az építményt 4-5 m mély és 5-7 m széles árok vette körül – ennek részben betemetődött maradványait ma is jól láthatjuk. Felfedezhető egy kb. 1 m vastag, szabálytalanul lerakott, mészhabarccsal összetapasztott alapfalmaradvány is. A mészkő régi korok várára utal, hiszen később alighanem téglából készült volna.

- A Tés, Csőszpuszta megállóhelyre Várpalota és Szápár felől érkeznek autóbuszok.

- Gyalogoljunk kelet felé az Országos Kéktúra K jelzésén Csőszpusztáról! Ez elvezet a Hamuházhoz (2,5 km, 31 m szintemelkedés).
- A Hamuháztól a KL jelzésen 300 méter sétával közelíthetjük meg a valamivel lejjebb található Csikling-várat.
Parking
- A Csőszpusztáról Szápár felé vezető autóutat keresztezi az Országos Kéktúra K jelzése. A kereszteződésnél, a sorompó előtt parkolhatunk.
