Accommodations in San Sebastian de la Gomera:
- Hotel Parador de La Gomera directly on the GR-132 at the last hiking kilometer, with harbor view
- Hotel Villa Gomera centrally located in San Sebastian
- Hotel Torre del Conde, named after the adjacent 15th-century watchtower, also centrally located in San Sebastian
- The author of these lines was also quite satisfied with the price/performance ratio of Hotel la Colombina.
Roadbook
We should also carry 3 liters of water and enough provisions for this stage; the next opportunity to eat or shop is only in San Sebastian de la Gomera.
The first half goes through the Parque Natural de Majona and the two small settlements El Palmar and Enchereda (each with fewer than 20 permanent residents). I do not provide a concrete route description here because my documents indicate a different path for the GR-132, and I only joined the original route at Altos de Uteza. From there, the route comes along a gravel road from Enchereda. However, an English description of this section can be found at hikingisgood.com.
From the pass, we follow the southern flank of the ridge with beautiful views down to the San Sebastian - Hermigua road and behind it the basalt cliffs of the Garajonay heights. We easily reach a summit with the Jaragan peak to our left and lovely views. Soon, San Sebastian de la Gomera becomes visible. The ridge comfortably descends with good long-distance visibility until the first houses of a suburb of San Sebastian are reached. Only then does the asphalt road continue downhill along the ridge until San Sebastian is reached. In the last kilometer, we can still enjoy two viewpoints on the cliffs with beautiful views of the ferry and marina before the sandy beach relaxes tired feet.
