1241 – Siegfried von Mügeln founded the monastery “St. Marienthal”. Thus, Sornzig – thanks to the nuns of the Cistercian order – became the historical cradle of fruit growing in the Mügeln region. In 1539 the monastery was dissolved due to the Reformation and remained a state estate with changing owners until 1892. Fruit growing truly blossomed anew through the Leipzig city planner Ludolf Colditz, who founded the Kloster Gärtnerei GmbH Sornzig in 1895. Expropriation of the Colditz family in 1946. Fruit growing was then continued successfully in an LPG and since 1990 in Klosterobst GmbH. The listed ensemble of the monastery in Sornzig is today a popular place for encounters, education, and recreation. It is located in the middle of a park landscape with three orchards (wild and meadow orchards). The sponsor is the Dr. Ludolf Colditz Foundation Kloster Marienthal.

The circular route starts in Börtewitz but can also be started from any other starting point.

From Börtewitz, the route first leads northeast through the geotope at Silbersee and past the open-cast mining pit at the clay pit to Kemmlitz. At the end of the village, turn left and follow the country road for a short distance. After a few hundred meters, continue to the right, past Wachberg, to Glossen train station. From there, the path leads via Nebitzschen to Mügeln.

In Mügeln, you pass St. Mary's Church and cycle through the center past the marketplace. Then you leave the town heading south along the cemetery. Via Lichteneichen, Sornzig and Strocken, you finally return to your starting point in Börtewitz.
