Mátrakeresztes közelében találjuk az Alsó-vízesést, mely gyér vízhozamánál fogva sokkal inkább geológiai látványosság, mintsem igazi vízesés.
Maga a sziklalépcső nagyjából 2 méternyi esésre készteti a patakvizet. A sűrűn benövényesedett, fiatalos erdővel borított terület egyik falában sötét andezitsziklákat látunk, a vízesés pedig egy ívelt, ránézésre is homogén anyagú sziklaperemből áll. Ez a szikla az egykori lávaár megszilárdult maradványa, körüle és alóla a kevésbé ellenálló kőzeteket a víz eróziós munkája mosta ki, ahogyan megállás nélkül koptatta szállított hordalékával a medret.
A sziklalépcső alatt a patak - már amikor van benne víz - apró zúgókat alkot. Télen még izgalmasabb a látvány, mint nyáron: nagy hidegek idején a megfagyó vízesés fehér jégfüggönyt, jégcsapsort alkotva lóg a szikla oldalában, ráadásul lomb hiányában a napsütésből is több jut az egyébként sötét, zárt völgyaljra.
Az apró vízesésben komolyabb mennyiségű vizet, szó szerinti vízesést csak csapadékos időszakban, leginkább tavasszal (hóolvadást követően) láthatunk.
Szemben állva az apró vízeséssel a jobb oldalunkon húzódó, méretes sziklafalban találjuk a Vidróczki-barlangot. Nevét természetesen a híres betyárról kapta, aki a legendák szerint ebben az apró üregben húzta meg magát egy darabig.

- A Mátrakeresztesen található Pásztó, Ágasvári menedékház buszmegállóba Pásztó vasútállomásáról, illetve a felső-mátrai falvakból érkeznek a járatok.

- A vízesést a mátrakeresztesi Óvár vendéglő kertjéből induló P+ jelzésű turistaúton tudjuk felkeresni (a vendéglő kertjébe egy kis híd vezet, erről lelépve azonnal jobbra kell fordulnunk, ott találjuk az ösvényt). A turistaút kilyukad egy erdészeti útra, amin jobbra tartunk, és pár méter után az erdőbe érünk. Az út balra fordul, majd pár lépés után jobbra, a sűrű fiatalosban jól kitaposott, meredeken lejtő csapást szúrhatunk ki a fák alatt: ezen érjük el a vízesést (néhány méter után már látjuk is a sziklákat) (500 m, 34 m szintemelkedés).
