1889 wurde in Birkenfeld die kath. Kirche St. Jakobus erbaut, ein neugotisches Gotteshaus aus gelbgrauem Sandstein. Zuvor diente die ev. Kirch über 300 Jahre lang als Simultankirche beider Konfessionen.
