Before continuing our path, we will need to decide whether to take the very challenging route over the Hochkönig to the Riemannhaus (Alpine variant 01), or the easier route via Maria Alm to the Riemannhaus. Here is route 01A via the Erichhütte.

From Werfen we go upriver along the Salzach to Grießl, cross the Imlaubach, ascend along the ridge to Reitsam and pass the former GH Hölln. After about half an hour, we steeply follow the switchbacks up to the left (south). We soon leave this forest road going straight ahead before our path turns right in many hairpin bends toward the Steinalm and higher up to the Mitterfeldalm. Under the Mandlwand, we descend to the Arthurhaus. Walking slightly downhill, we continue to the Riedlingalm (refreshment stop on the left side of the path). Next is an ascent to the Widdersbergeralm (refreshment stop), then the route proceeds under the cliffs of the Hochkönig in a curve into the Birkkar, and after some ups and downs, we reach the beautifully situated Erichhütte.
