01A Northern Alpine Trail, E29 (variant): Lofer - Straubinger House
The next day we head up from Lofer to the Kalvarienberg, where our path is first steep and then gradually gentler towards Braugföllalm (1,250 m). Here we keep left towards Lerchberghörndl, where just before the summit we turn right to a saddle below Grubhörndl, descending in a few switchbacks to the Loferer Alm (1,384 m).
From the Loferer Alm slightly upward on the alpine access road, then we soon disappear into the forest on the wild romantic, sometimes swampy (wooden boardwalks, caution when wet) Klemmrichsteig. After about four hours, we reach via the Kammerköhralm (1,506 m) the next large alpine pasture and ski area on the Steinplatte (1,376 m, toll road). In this area there are private dining and accommodation possibilities at Stallenalm and the Brennhütte.
The path continues north directly at the Bavarian border in somewhat higher krummholz terrain. After crossing under two small elevations, we soon reach the extensive Eggenalm with the day’s destination, the Straubinger House (1,558 m, managed from early May to early November, winter room with AV lock).
