Bolsena is situated on the northern shores of Lake Bolsena with its swimming holes and marina. The city, surrounded by Etruscan and Roman ruins, was destroyed by the Lombards in the sixth century and later rebuilt: the medieval quarter attests to the storied history. Do not miss the Basilica of Santa Cristina, the Rocca Monaldeschi, the Museum of Lake Bolsena, the Church of San Francesco, the Aquarium, the Towers, the Roman Etruscan excavations of Poggio Moscini.
