Der Gran Paradiso ist mit 4061 m der höchste Berg, der ganz in Italien liegt. Ihr Wahrzeichen ist die weiße Madonna-Statue am Gipfel – und der sensationelle Ausblick über den Alpenkamm und zum Mont Blanc!

Der Gran Paradiso liegt in den Grajischen Alpen, im Aostatal im Nordwesten Italiens. Bergsteigerisch gilt er als einer der leichtesten Viertausender der Alpen. Zu unterschätzen ist er aber trotzdem nicht! Zum Gipfel führen mehrere Aufstiegsrouten, wobei der viel begangene Normalweg vom Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II aus über den Gletscher und über den „Eselsrücken“ verläuft. Der Anstieg von Nordwesten aus (vom Rifugio Federico Chabod) ist ebenfalls eine beliebte Tour.

Die Erstbesteigung des Gran Paradiso war 1860 durch Michel-Clément Payot, Jean Tairraz, John Jeremy Cowell und W. Dundas.
