You start at the parking lot in Weißlahnbad and then follow the signs towards Grasleitenhütte, which you reach after about 3 hours. The ascent up to here is not difficult.
From here you continue towards Grasleitenpasshütte, which you reach after just over an hour. The ascent is a bit steeper, but easily accessible with mountain clothing. From here the not particularly difficult via ferrata to the summit of Kesselkogel begins. Helmet, harness, etc. are recommended. The last part to the summit cross runs along a ridge. Absolute surefootedness is required here, as there is no cable protection.
The descent can be done via the ascent route or as a crossing. In the latter case, around 35 secured rope sections have to be overcome, all not difficult. However, you then have to ascend about 150 m again to reach the Grasleitenpasshütte.
Overall an interesting but strenuous route if you want to complete it in one day. There are overnight accommodations available at both Grasleitenhütten.
