Starting from the Jagahäusl, we follow the road towards Schaumbergalm. After about 5 minutes, we reach a junction where we turn left. After a few minutes, the path branches off to the left, now going a bit steeper uphill. After half an hour of walking, the forest road to Schaumberg crosses our path. From here, there is already a beautiful view into the Bodinggraben and onto the opposite Zaglbauernalm. The path continues through the forest, and after another half hour, you reach the forest road, which we now follow uphill. Soon, we reach the grazing area of the Schaumbergalm. From here, there is a wonderful view of the Steyrsteg, the Sengsengebirge with the Hohe Nock, and the Kleine Größtenberg. At the junction, we turn left and reach the Schaumbergalm after a few minutes. Waltraud invites you to your first rest here with her alpine specialties.
The path continues uphill towards Trämpl over the lush mountain meadow, where about 70 cattle spend their summer. We follow the signposts for Ebenforstalm and Trämpl to the left through a short section of forest and soon arrive at a fork in the path. From here, one could already continue directly to Ebenforstalm. However, the summits of Trämpl and Alpstein reward with stunning views far beyond the borders of the national park. After one hour, the summit of the 1424 m high Trämpl is finally reached. After a short break, the route continues towards Alpstein. We cross the grazing areas several times and walk below the rock face to the grazing area Luchsboden. Those who are already a bit tired can descend to Ebenforstalm here.
From here, the summit of Alpstein at 1443 m height can be reached in 20 minutes. The summit area is somewhat exposed and recommended only for experienced hikers without a fear of heights. The views into the Reichraminger Hintergebirge and the Gesäuse National Park are very impressive.
Return is along the same path to Luchsboden, from where you can reach the Ebenforstalm in about 45 minutes.
