The hobby farm Schildberger is known by everyone in Lavanttal, but everything started quite differently... 30 years ago, the Schildberger couple, married since 1973, bought ponies and a few chickens for their children Sabine and Walter. The foundation for today’s hobby farm was (unconsciously) laid. Gradually, more and more animals were added, and before you knew it, "a few animals for the children" had turned into a whole petting zoo.

Today, the hobby farm Schildberger is a popular destination for young and old alike, and the family business, in which son Walter also works alongside the founders, has evolved from a hobby to a full-time job. Work is done with and around the animals from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., “there is hardly any time left for other hobbies,” the family notes. In addition to feeding and caring for the animals, cleaning and maintaining the enclosures and stables as well as raising the young animals are also part of the program. Roswitha Schildberger also takes care of the guests and serves them freshly made house pizza and Margherita pizza – quite versatile, the Schildbergers, who primarily wish for good health, so that the farm can keep running smoothly for many years to come.

In the colorful array of animals on the farm of the trained carpenter and his wife, who was previously employed at LKH Wolfsberg, numerous crowd favorites have now joined. In addition to Shetland ponies, house donkeys, mini dwarf goats, llamas, alpacas, kangaroos, muntjac deer, pampas hares, and various breeds of chickens, giant tortoises, parrots, goats, rodents, and peacocks have also made themselves at home on the hobby farm Schildberger. By the way, grandson Fabian, at the age of four and a half, is already diligently practicing how to best care for the animals, so we hope that the family business will be preserved for a long time.
