Symbol of Acqui Terme
Located in the center of the Bollente Square, on the Corso Italia side, the "Bollente" is an octagonal temple, built in the late 19th century, under which a fountain flows. It is located behind a 75°C sulfur-salt-bromine-iodine water spring. The spring, known since Roman times, has been used for spa treatments for its healing properties for respiratory diseases, rheumatism and arthrosis. One legend has it that infants were briefly immersed in the spring and, if they survived, were called "sgaientò" (scalded).
