Pumping fountain (19th century)
C.H. Pfeiffer (stele), Frankenthal
At first glance, this fountain may not seem very spectacular. But it is worth taking a closer look. The Ungstein fountain is one of the most ornate Renaissance-style pump fountains in the region.
An octagonal plinth with cartouches depicting vases with flower arrangements rises above a square base box with rich ornamentation. Above this is a column that ends in a knob-shaped, opening flower.
The water outlet is designed in the shape of a dragon's head, whose upturned lip was used to hang the water bucket, in front of which is a modern triangular water basin made of sandstone.
This art object is stop no. 45 on the cultural tour signpost.
