A newly erected wayside cross stands at the edge of the field near Drackenstein - as a sign of faith and cohesion after the original cross was destroyed in 2022 and the figure stolen.
On the outskirts of Drackenstein, surrounded by fields and with a view of the Alb plateau, there is once again a simple but impressive wayside cross. The original wayside cross was vandalized by unknown persons in 2022 and the accompanying figure of Jesus was stolen. The loss caused consternation in the community - many residents associated the cross with a place of reflection and quiet contemplation on walks or while working in the fields.
Thanks to the commitment of the village community, the cross has now been completely renovated and reinstalled. The new wooden cross stands firmly on a stone base, bears an artistically carved figure of Christ and is protected from wind and weather by a small roof.
Today, the wayside cross is not only a reminder of Christian traditions, but also of solidarity, hope and the respectful treatment of religious symbols. Walkers, pilgrims and hikers will find a peaceful place to linger here - in the middle of the gentle landscape around Drackenstein.
