The weather corner

It’s here that in summer the clouds approaching from the south rise up over the mountains to cooler levels. This is why severe thunderstorms can form on the peaks, as is evident from the trees on the summit that have been struck by lightning. When lightning strikes a tree, it vaporises the flow of sap and the pressure bursts the vital sap-filled wood with the result that the tree dries out. When storms approach, this area is to be avoided at all costs!
