With a unique insight into the world of legends, you can seek out legendary tales and caches on the hiking trails in Dienten, Mühlbach & Maria Alm.
The dairymen and dairywomen at the alpine pasture below the Hochkönig had sung, danced and drunk day and night. One evening, an old man appeared on the mountain pasture, dressed in a grey pilgrim's cloak. He held a walking stick in his hand, his hat pulled low over his face, and humbly asked for shelter. But the dairymaids laughed in his face and sent him away. The next day, a cloud gathered around the mountain - black and enormous, even the oldest people could not remember ever having seen anything like it. Lightning flashed around the peak and the whole Pinzgau shook with thunderclaps. A mighty flood poured over the mountain pasture and immediately solidified into ice. The devils, however, went screaming through the holes in the rock face. If you doubt the story, look up to the Hochkönig - you can still see the devil's holes today.
