With a unique insight into the world of legends, you can seek out legendary tales and caches on the hiking trails in Dienten, Mühlbach & Maria Alm.
Above the village of Dienten, near the walls of the Hochkönig, lies the Zachhof. This is where the knight Wolfgang von Zach lived many hundreds of years ago. He had two daughters, one of whom was blind. When the knight Wolfgang Zach died, he left a treasure to the daughters, which the two were to share. For this purpose, the sighted woman placed two vessels on the table, like those used to measure grain and called metzen. Alternately she dropped a piece of gold into one and then into the other, and the blind woman listened eagerly to the sound. From time to time, however, she felt in her jar for the height of the pile of gold, but the sighted sister had devised a wicked ruse! She placed the sister's matzo upside down, so that the gold soon filled the lower edge of the bottom! For a long time the blind woman did not notice the deception, but finally she found out. Then a wild struggle began between the two sisters, which did not end until both sank to the ground dead. Since then it has no longer been safe on the Zachhof, the two sisters walk around there as ghosts and guard their treasures. Anyone who is pure of heart and without sin can meet the White and Blue Women once a year. He must be alone in the house on Christmas Eve, then exactly at the midnight hour the Blue Woman climbs up from the cellar into the sub-roof and her white sister changes with her and wanders from above into the deep cellar. The two of them then show whoever catches sight of them the place in the house where their treasures lie hidden. To this day, no man has yet succeeded in fulfilling all the conditions; either he was impure of heart, or he had missed the right time. Thus the White Woman and the Blue Woman still have to go around unredeemed in the Zachhof, and their treasures have remained unredeemed until this very hour.
