Ohtaniemi Farm Catering

Many houses also have borders, marked by means of fences or other landmarks. The Ohtaniemi farm is one of the oldest and best-preserved peasant farms in South Karelia. Its buildings were originally built around an inner yard in the 19th century. This made it easier to protect the farm, control access and keep an eye on the animals.

 Today, the farm invites visitors to enjoy delicacies prepared by Riitta, the hostess of the farm, which have impressed even presidents. According to an old proverb from South Karelia, bread makes the skier stronger and helps them more than any ski wax.

 In the yard, visitors are also greeted by five cats, four sheep, rabbits and a flock of chickens and a rooster. Fortunately, the lion sightings in Ruokolahti back in 1992 turned out to be a hoax. Or perhaps the lion returned to the other side of the eastern border.
