Neda is a river in the Peloponnese located on the border of the prefectures of Ilia and Messinia. It originates from Mt. Lykaio, it flows to the west and it ends into the Ionian Sea, between the coasts of Kyparissia and Zacharo. Its length is 32 kilometers long. The river got its name from the nymph Neda. According to mythology, it was created when Rhea wanted to wash the newborn Zeus and hit the soil of Mt. Lykaio to gush water. The river in antiquity, as Pausanias mentions, defined the borders between Ilia and Messinia.
