Der Rheinfall zählt mit 23 Metern Fallhöhe und 150 Metern Breite zu den größten Wasserfällen Europas. Gemessenan der Durchflussmenge (pro Sekunde 373.000 Liter, zur Schneeschmelze gar bis zu einer Million Liter) ist er sogar der Größte. Vom Schloss Laufen führen ein Treppenweg und ein Aufzug bis ganz dicht an die tosenden Wassermassen heran. Boote setzen zum Fahnenfelsen und zum Schlössli Wörth über.
