Der Mardalsfossen in der norwegischen Provinz Møre og Romsdal ist der vierthöchste Wasserfall der Welt.

Der Mardalsfossen ist einer der bekanntesten Wasserfälle in Norwegen und ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel. Gespeist aus dem auf 945 m Höhe gelegenen See Mardalstjønna fließt er über die Mardola zusammen mit dem Ytste Mardola in den Eikesdalsee. Die komplette Fallhöhe des zweigeteilten Wasserfalls beträgt 655 m, 297 m davon fällt der Wasserfall frei auf den oberen Absatz.

Seit dem Jahr 1970 wird der Mardalsfossen wie viele Wasserfälle in Norwegen zur Stromversorgung umgeleitet, der Wasserfall dadurch also trockengelegt. Große Proteste der Bevölkerung sorgten jedoch dafür, dass der Wasserfall zwischen dem 20. Juni und dem 20. August als Touristenattraktion fließen darf.

Directions

Von Åndalsnes kommend zunächst der Fv64 in nördlicher Richtung folgen. In Äfarnes auf die Fv660 wechseln und bis kurz vor Eresfjord folgen. Dort die Fv191 in südlicher Richtung nehmen und am Eikesdalsee entlang bis zum Parkplatz am Mardalsfossen fahren.
