Für die Verbindung über das Zeinisjoch lässt sich eine mehr als 1000jährige Geschichte belegen. Der Verkehr an diesem Übergang beschränkte sich nicht nur auf Viehtrieb und Truppenbewegungen. Er war auch ein wichtiger Übergang für den Transport von Salz aus Hall in Tirol und diente Handelsleuten und Handwerksburschen als niedrigste Verbindung zwischen der Innerfratte und dem Paznaun.
