Einen hohen Anteil ihrer erneuerbaren Energien erzielt die Gemeinde Simmerath hier im Windpark Michelshof. Er war der erste Bürgerwindpark in der Gemeinde und wurde im Juli 2004 in Betrieb genommen. Er deckt den jährlichen Strombedarf von ca. 7.000 Haushalten. Unter dem Motto „Eifelwind für alle“ konnten die Bürger der Gemeinde Simmerath Miteigentümer der Windenergieanlagen werden.
