Kythera's Balcony" in Mitata offers an iconic view of Mount Agia Georgis
Tsakonas gorge, Viaradika, Paleopoli beach, and Paliokastro with unique visual experiences year-round." The spot offers one of the most iconic views on the island. Mount Agios Georgios (Ai Giorgis sto Vouno") stands out dominating the area and considered an important landmark for locals and visitors. Turning east the view spreads over the impressive green valley with the Tsakonas gorge starting from the west of the settlement while across, the historic village of Viaradika is visible. Lower down but further away, on the eastern outskirts lies Paleopoli beach, the largest on the island and in the background the imposing Paliokastro (the ancient capital of Kythera) dominates. This spot, in addition to being a local "balcony" for the Mitatiotes, is also an attraction for visitors thanks to the unobstructed view of a large part of the island. In July and August, one has the opportunity to enjoy the full moon over the sea while in winter, the sun emerges from the sea. The stream was full of orchards until 1980. On the Viaradika side, there were cherry trees and when they bloomed in May the sight was impressive. On the Mitata side, there were trees with apple-peaches and "Aphrodite's breasts" - a local variety of fruits. "Mitata, beautiful village, who could forget you, plane trees, nightingales and coolness, and water at the spring. The sun rises in the morning and angels sing, and bees make thyme honey."
